The Hostels

One part of our preparations for Malaysia was, to find and book a hostel for the first few nights.
We started to search for a hostel on www.hostelworld.com and on www.hostelbookers.com.
We trusted in the recommendations and the experiences of other guests and booked three nights at the “Matahari Lodge” located in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur.
We took a taxi from the Central Station to our hostel. The problem was that the entry is only a normal house door with no big signs on it. So it was hard to find the entry to the hostel. But finally we made it.
We were received very warmly there. We got our room keys, disposed our luggage, took a shower and went out to Chinatown to eat something after our long journey.
The first night was very good – of course after a 16 hour fligh.
.
The hostel provided free breakfast and free Wifi.
All in all we can say that we had a pleasant stay at the Matahari Lodge and would recommend it at any time.
Our next experience with a hostel was only a few weeks later when we decided to travel to Langkawi in the North of Malaysia.
We found some review of other guests and trusted in them. We called the “AB Motel” on Langkawi.
It was very hard to understand the women on the other end of the line but finally as we arrived a few days later everything went well.
We got a nice room with our own shower – which is not so common in hostels.

The best was the price. We payed 25,00 € each for 5 nights.
Finally we can say that we had a great time at the AB motel.

The university planned a three-day trip to Melaka. Guess what, we had to find a nice hostel again. We have a routine in searching and finding a proper accomondation.
We found a hostel called “Riverview”

It was very nice and very cheap. We payed three euro each for a night, which was unbelievable.
At the first glance the hostel seemed to be very shabby but that’s not true. The reason for that is was by the river and usually affected by the floods.
The rooms were in a really good condition. Comfortable big beds and a very nice kitchen.
Compared to an old car we would say that the hostel has got a kind of “patina”.

By the way this hostel was located in Chinatown, Melaka.

Some time passed by since we needed to find another hostel for our next trip. We planned to see the famous Cameron Highlands. We booked two rooms at the “Eight Mentigi” in Tanah Rata.
The guest father was very friendly. We had a really good time there. The Eight Mentigi is a subsidiary of the Fathers Guesthouse which is also located in the Cameron Highlands.
For a night at the Eight Mentigi we spend around 10,00 €.
You can book a lot of Jungle tours in the hostel and you can get some good recommendations for restaurants in this area. We enjoyed every moment at the hostel and the highlands.

  1. Traditional hotel users are jumping ship in their droves and experiencing the new style of accommodation that modern hostels are offering.
