The Republic of Singapore is located at the south end of the Malayan peninsula and got its independence of Malaysia in the year 1965.
When we arrived in downtown Singapore for the first time we were totally dumbfounded. The appearance of the city is amazing. In comparison to Malaysia or KL it is a lot more western orientated. The streets are very clean. The traffic is affected by good-looking (German) cars and just a few motorcycles. Pleasant! Thousands of business people are walking around as how we did. Our first destination was, of course, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
The 3 unit building with the “ship” on top is astonishing. We decided to get on top right away. There is an observation deck on the roof as well as a bar and a club for the public.
Unfortunately, the pool is just for hotel guests. We all agreed that we definitely have to come back in the future being a guest in this fabulous hotel. Also the view over nearly the whole city and the harbor was nothing but beautiful.
Especially at night it is very very good-looking. Also the Singapore Theatre (Flower) and the Singapore Flyer, which is even 5 meters taller than the London Eye, are really nice.
The next day we did some more sightseeing, went to Little India and of course to the Formula 1 race track, the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Additionally we made a stop at the oldest hotel of Singapore, the Raffles Hotel, and ordered a “Singapore Sling”. This cocktail was invented there in 1896. Delicious!
When the dark came in we finally went back to enjoy the beautiful skyline of the finance district.
After having some dinner at an old food-court with more than 100 different stores, we went up to the highest skyscraper in Singapore. Again, the view was amazing.
We did some shopping on our third day. Hence we spend the day in giant malls along the Orchard Road.
Later that day we checked out the nightlife of Singapore. The destination of our choice was “Clarke`s Quay”, a place with a lot of Bars, clubs and discos.
We did not want to miss the zoo of Singapore because we heard of its beauty so we drove there with the properly working local public transportation.
Many animals, mainly monkeys, run around freely and you can see some extraordinary animals which cannot be seen in German zoos.
We had a really good time in Singapore and enjoyed our stay there very much. It is a magnificent city with beautiful buildings, great possibilities for shopping and an astonishing skyline. It was a welcome variety of our daily life and the Asian way of living because Singapore is more western-oriented as mentioned before. The city is more comparable to cities of the European or American world rather than the Asian one. That`s maybe why we liked it so much staying there because we are more used to this lifestyle. And they even have moving staircases in public parks and their temples are like skyscrapers ;-)
Nevertheless we were glad to come back to our home in Malaysia.
